To WFH or not to WFH...

2020 was a huge shift for everyone and for almost every aspect of our lives, including work. I had never worked remotely before, but I was honestly pretty excited about it. I was totally burned out on the office culture, the myriad of distractions, and getting ready to go to work. Obviously the reason why we had to work from home was awful, but all we could do was make the best of it.

I did not have a great set up for quite sometime. I was working at my dining room table, in a terribly stiff chair, and no organization. Eventually I got myself a legitimate desk and moved into separate space I had in the home I was living in at the time. As I'm writing this blog, I'm in a different home, a one bedroom apartment, where everything is sort of all in the same room.

Over the last couple of years I have definitely learned some practical do's and don't's, and my perspective on WFH has changed. I actually really loved it in my old job. I think I was just over stimulated in the office and I found working at home very peaceful for the most part. However, I was going through a lot at the time with work and personally, which made staying on task challenging. I messed up a few times like missing deadlines or even meetings because I was doing something else like laundry or fell asleep. It really wasn't good at all, but I made adjustments along the way to improve my productivity. I did end up going to therapy for just about the whole time I was working from home which helped a lot. By 2021 I was convinced I never wanted an in-person job ever again.

But now that I'm in a new career I've changed my mind about working exclusively from home. Now I am spending three days a week in the office and it's actually really fantastic. I get so much out of my time there, and I just feel better being around people more often. I will say that it has taken my introverted self some time to adjust to being with people more often, but I'm enjoying it. I wake up and want to go to work, which says a lot. I also think the office I'm in now is just so much more my vibe.

I still have a work station at home that I use for class and my own projects. It gets the job done, but I am hoping to get a few upgrades soon. I've shared a picture of what my station looks like now with some edits of what I hope it will look like in the near future!
